The Spit

A damp habitat, which is not open to the public, and is left strictly alone.

The spit runs between the two stretches of water, and has much tall rough vegetation and a few trees. Because it is left alone by humans, it is invaluable in providing safe refuge and nesting sites for birds like swan, duck and warblers. It is also water vole habitat.
